Two BIG Keys to Making More Money with Affiliate Programs

Focus your marketing on what people want. WHAT do people buy?  Go ahead and answer that question. WHAT do people buy?  Whether they are at the grocery store or Wal-Mart or the gas station…WHAT do people buy?

Let's make it even more personal.  When they visit YOUR affiliate site, WHAT do they buy? Take a minute and think about this.  Your answer is absolutely important.

What do they buy at the grocery store?  If you said “groceries” then you'd be WRONG.

What do they buy at Wal-Mart?  If you said “toothpaste” or “ceiling fans” or “ink pens”, you'd be WRONG.

What do people buy at the gas station?  If you said “gas,” you'd be WRONG.

What do they buy at your site?  If you said “my product” you'd be WRONG.

If you ever want to earn significant profits doing business online  (or anywhere else for that matter), then you need to understand WHAT people buy.

They don't buy products.  They don't buy services.

They buy RESULTS.

Get that into your head right now.  People buy what they buy because they anticipate RESULTS.

It's been said, “You don't sell a lawn mower, you sell a manicured lawn.”  

Think about it:  folks don't buy those crazy ab machines, they buy washboard abs.  They buy because they anticipate results.

We buy toothpaste because we anticipate whiter, healthier teeth. We buy gas because we expect it to get us from one place to the next.  We buy movie tickets because we want to enjoy a night of entertainment.

We buy RESULTS.

Now, let's fast forward to YOU and YOUR BUSINESS. What are you selling?  C'mon, what are you selling?  You are selling RESULTS. Doesn't matter what “type” of product or service you are promoting, you are selling RESULTS.  You are selling the ultimate benefit that your potential customer can expect to receive from purchasing your product or service.

Sooooooooooooo -- translated into the one change you need to make to your salesletters, your ezine ads and your ecourses -- you need to focus on the RESULTS OF USING YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE.

Your salesletter should focus on RESULTS.

Your solo mailing should focus on RESULTS.

Your eCourse should focus on RESULTS.

Any type of marketing you do for your product should stress what the user can reasonably expect as a result of making the decision to join the subscription site you are promoting. 

Build momentum.  One thing that I stress to my clients over and over and over again is the absolute necessity in building momentum with a program.  This is especially true in promoting subscription sites like Nicheology.

The mentality of affiliate marketing is completely out of focus.  Too many affiliates get discouraged when they don't make a fortune the first few weeks and then either quit the affiliate program or they check out and quit the entire business online for good.

Imagine trying to push a car.  You push for a while and it slowly moves.  And because it isn't going very far or moving very fast, you quit.  Good grief, that car never had a chance of getting anywhere.

Now, imagine trying to push a car.  You push for a while and it slowly moves.  You stick at it and it moves further and begins to pick up a bit of speed.  More and more you push and momentum begins to build.  You are no longer pushing as hard as you were and yet it is continuing to move along.  In fact, for brief periods of time you can actually stop pushing and yet it continues to move forward!

You've got to be consistent.  You can't give up and turn your back on your efforts because it didn't move quickly enough…

…you haven't been pushing long enough!

I've been promoting
HostGator for well over a year now.  The average affiliate promotes the program for 30 days.  And they wonder why I am able to pay the monthly mortgage payment on a new $200,000 home every month with my commission checks and they never made more than pizza money.

It's not that I have some magic bottle that worked some abracadabra for me.

It's that I DIDN'T QUIT.

And you can't either.  Build some momentum.  Don't expect a fortune the first month.  Just stick to it and get that car rolling!
